2012 China National Amateur Fencing Tournament - Shanghai

Shanghai Dragon Fencing Center (now SECA Academy) is proud to co-organize the first competition in the 2012 China National Amateur Fencing Tournament Circuit. This national level tournament is hosted by the Chinese Fencing Association and organized by the Shanghai Finance University. The other co-organizer is the Shanghai Fencing Association.


The tournament will be held from Sunday April 29th through Tuesday May 1st, 2012 (Please note that these dates were revised on March 31st and are the latest dates).

We would like to invite fencers from China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan as well as fencing clubs and fencing schools from Overseas to participate and look forward to welcoming you to Shanghai!

2012 National Amateur Fencing Tournament Announcement

1. Hosted by :: Chinese Fencing Association

2. Organizers :: Shanghai Finance University and Shanghai Dragon International Fencing Center (now SECA Academy)

3. Co-organizer :: Shanghai Fencing Association

4. Tournament date :: 29th April- 1st May, 2012 (Total 3 days).

5. Tournament location :: Shanghai Finance University, Main Stadium (Add: No.995 Shang Chuan Road, Pudong,Shanghai).

6. Tournament Participants :: Amateur fencers from Greater China (including HongKong, Macao and Taiwan). Fencing Clubs, Overseas Fencing Clubs and Fencing Schools.

7. Qualification :: Age and Nationality: fencers minimum age is 6 years old. (Birthdate before 31st December, 2006).

a. Age Categories:

- Children A (use size 0# weapon): Born after 1st Jan, 2003;
- Children B (use size 0# weapon): 1st Jan 2000-31st Dec 2002;
- Youth (use adult size 5# weapon): 1st Jan 1997-31st Dec 1999;
- Adult (use adult size 5# weapon):1st Jan 1973-31st Dec 1996;
- Veteran (use adult size 5# weapon): Born before 31st Dec 1972;

b. Representation: Each fencer can only represent himself/herself or their organization.
c. Prohibited Participants: Active Professional Athletes or Professional Athletes who retired less than 2 years ago are not permitted to participate in this tournament.

8. Tournament events and Schedule
Men :: (Children A, Children B, Youth, Adult, Veteran) Foil, Epee, and Sabre both Individual and Team events.
Women :: (Children A, Children B, Youth, Adult, Veteran) Foil, Epee, and Sabre both Individual and Team events.

The final tournament schedule will be subject to the actual number of registered participants.

9. Tournament details

a. Tournament rules: the tournament is conducted following the latest fencing tournament rules by the Chinese Fencing Association.
b. Tournament process: one round of pools followed by direct elimination.
c. Fencers in multiple events: Veterans and Senior Fencers are permitted to fence in TWO individual weapon events. Youth and Children A and B are only allowed to fence in ONE individual weapon event.
d. About Team Events: In Team events, a minimum of three and maximum of 4 fencers are allowed. In each team event, a younger fencer may be added to a team that is one age group older. For example, a Children B fencer may be added to a Youth Team, a Youth fencer may be added to a Senior Team, however a Children B fencer may not fence in a Senior event, as this is two age groups higher. Veterans may choose to fence on a Senior Team.

10. Certification and Awards

a. Certification
1) If there are more than eight entries in an event, certification and awards will go to the top eight. Third place will be a tie.
2) If there are eight or less entries in an event, the bottom two are eliminated from certification and awards.
3) If there are three entries in an event, only the top one fencer shall be given certification and awards.
4) any event shall be canceled if there are less than three entries.

b. Awards:
1) First, Second, Third (tied): Certification, medal.
2) Fifth to Eighth: Certification.

11. Expenses & Equipment

a. Personal fencing equipment (including uniforms) should be the responsibility of each. All fencers must bring two weapons and two body cords to the strip. FIE certified uniforms are not required.
b. Fencing equipment can only be allowed for use in competition after being checked and marked by the organizer ( Foil fencers must use the latest mask design with conducting bib).
c. Fencers shall be responsible for all of their own expenses.

12. Referee

a. The Referee Committee will be designated by the Chinese Fencing Association, and Referee will be designated by Shanghai Fencing Association;
b. Each team or club with 10 and above fencers shall provide one referee with the expenses being borne by the team or club; Each team or club with 25 and above fencers shall provide two referees with the expenses being borne by the team or club; Each team or club with 50 and above fencers shall provide three referees with the expenses being borne by the team or club; Any team or club who does not provide referee(s) in accordance with the rules shall submit RMB 200 in referee fees for each missing referee to the organizing committee.

13. Sign up and Check-in Registration

a. Sign up

1) Each team or club must designate one group leader. There are no limitations on the number of coaches and/ or fencers from each team or club.
2) Sign up dates: till 23rd April 2012

4) Each “Registration Form” submitted must include the following content together with signature or stamp: “We hereby certify that the competitors on this Registration have passed medical examination and already been qualified for participation, and each have purchased “Personal Accident Injury Insurance”.

b. Check in:

1) Each individual or team participant shall check-in to their hotel by themselves on 27th April -28th April 2012. The Organizer is not responsible for arranging any pick-up service.
2) Entries shall register with valid ID (second ID card or passport), for verification of the “Registration Form” by the Organizer. The tournament registration fees is RMB100; Participating fencers will receive the “Participation card” and a “Program of the Tournament” after completing the registration procedure.
3) Equipment check, on-site warm-up and fencing practice as well as and registration confirmation shall occur on 28th April. Please check the detailed schedule for more information.

c. A “Team/ Club Leader and Technical meeting” will be held at meeting room of Shanghai Finance University Stadium on 28th April.

14. Room and Board
The Organizer suggests the following accommodation options for Room and Board (Participating fencers will be responsible for their own expenses in securing Room and Board):

16. The Organizers reserve the right to interpret the above mentioned rules and regulations and make adjustments to the event schedule depending on the total number of participants.
